Helps Eliminate The Risk In Your Food Safety Program and Prevents Food Safety Issues

  • Prevents safety issues from reaching a critical point
  • Integrates to processing lines and equipment
  • Collects data from multiple devices
  • Tracks safety issues
  • Paperless, automatic record keeping and reporting
  • Performs Audit Reports in Minutes

The SQF-Sentinel system is a comprehensive tool for the operation of a food safety program in a food processing facility. The product supports all of the commonly used food safety standards – SQF, BRC and ISO and can be implemented for a single user workstation or integrated into a plant-wide system.

Inexpensive to implement and support, it can be installed and configured by your existing staff and eliminates manual recording, transcribing, and charting of data, freeing your quality-control staff for more productive work.

Major food retailers are requiring that their suppliers be certified to demonstrate that they have the highest level of safety and quality standards in place. However, no matter which Food Safety Management System you wish to be certified with, there is a significant on-going cost of manpower involved.

Your choices are many - BRC, SQF, or ISO certifications - but they all involve people manually recording information and people following up on reported problems. Basically - added manpower.

The cost of added manpower is one thing, but the reliability of the data and adherence to schedule is another. Relying on inaccurate data collection may result in a recall or worse, damage to your brand name. Pencil Whipping, extrasensory inspections, lick 'em and stick 'em, or whiff-n-poof (whiff—blow on it—and poof, you’re done). Although amusing expressions, they describe the serious alternatives to doing the right job, the right way.

Pencil whipping (faking paperwork) occurs for a variety of reasons, from employees taking short cuts to avoidance of writing down out-of-spec data. Whenever record keeping is done manually, the reliability of the data is ... well ... not very reliable.

It can be debated whether the falsification of food safety records can be viewed by the federal government as a violation of Food Safety Laws. What is discussed on the FDA’s website has to do with knowledge and intent behind the falsification of records and it makes interesting reading.

Supervisors and managers should be aware that whether or not you, personally, are performing the data collection, you are responsible for the workers you supervise. Should a problem at your food plant reveal a violation of Food Safety Law, it’s safe to assume that more than one person would be called upon to answer for it.

There is a solution to “Pencil Whipping”! The paperless Food Safety Management System called SQF-Sentinel eliminates pencil whipping, ensures the timely collection of reliable food safety data, and reduces the manpower required for record keeping.
This dynamic new software saves a huge amount of labor and insures accountability. Sentinel is the solution for reliably collecting control point data for food safety management programs.

Sentinel can collect data from a wide variety of devices such as:

  • PC terminals
  • Wireless Tablets & Handheld Devices
  • Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Remote Measurement Devices
  • Metal Detectors
  • Check Weighers and Scales

user dashboards

Dashboards provide an overview of critical control points and safety tasks, and are configurable for each individual user! This allows each user to group related control points that are relevant to his area of concern.

Status Window Displays

  • Out-of-Tolerance Process Variables
  • Tasks Not Completed on Schedule
  • Critical Control Alarm Set Points

Control Points and Tasks can be grouped by area or department such as:

  • Ingredient Storage
  • Make-up Area
  • Processing
  • Baking
  • Batching
  • Assembly
  • Packing
  • Shipping
  • Sanitation

The dashboard allows the user to monitor the status of his/her food safety system. These dashboards are configurable and can be set up to display any of the monitored control points.

Control points that are monitored by SQF-Sentinel can have specific assigned “tolerances.” Temperature sensitive control points such Ovens and Freezers can be set to have an acceptable temperature range (in degrees).
In the case of a standard operating procedure, the maximum allowable deviation (in minutes) from the scheduled completion time of the procedure would be the tolerance. As SQF-Sentinel operates, it is constantly scanning for control points that are out of tolerance. Those that are out of tolerance result in an alarm condition. These alarms are presented on the dashboard using color codes that are user configurable.

Along the top of the dashboard are what we refer to as “indicators”. These are control points that the user can select for display at all times. The purpose of these indicators is to allow the user to get a quick indication of the plant’s status by merely glancing at the top of the SQF-Sentinel dashboard.

Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points

The HACCP Documentation Package gives the user the Ability to control and categorize HACCP documents under the appropriate HACCP pre-requisite section.
The HACCP Section of SQF- Sentinel allows you to Define and Edit HACCP procedures, including:
  • Product Specifications and Profiles
  • Finished Goods Handling
  • Raw Material Analysis
  • HACCP Team
  • Sanitation, GMP, Pest Control, Chemical Control
  • Complaints
  • Traceability

Alerts

SQF Sentinel allows you to Setup and modify automatic alerts to management when out-of-tolerance conditions such as Freezers, Ovens or Metal detectors occur on selected Control Points. These alerts are sent directly to management via cell phone text message, email or a message through SQF-Sentinel.

SQF-Documents

SQF Documents need to be maintained and accessed for food safety programs. SQF Sentinel makes this process easy by allowing all of your documents to be stored in a centralized location. All Documentation can be linked to the SQF-Sentinel System. When a document gets uploaded it will store a copy of the selected document to the path listed in the company profile, the original document remains untouched in its original location.

SQF Document Control and Archiving:
  • Categorization of documents by SQF section
  • Product Quality Control Reports
  • Customers Surveys
  • Customer Complaints
  • Vendor Surveys
  • Vendor Performance tracking and reporting
  • Clean-up Logs
  • Non-Conformance Reports
